What are hormones?

A hormone is a chemical messenger in the body that evokes certain responses and coordinates various functions in our organs and tissues.  Bio-identical hormones (BHT) are structurally the same as our body’s own hormones. Because these hormones are naturally accepted by the body, they are easily used and broken down and hence the side effects are minimized.

How does bio-identical hormone replacement therapy work?

Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) involves using hormones that match those created naturally in the body to treat a wide range of conditions. This helps men and women suffering from low or unbalanced levels of hormones including sex hormones, and thyroid hormone. Unlike synthetic hormone therapy, there is little risk of complications because the body accepts bio-identical hormones with minimal difficulty.

What is BHRT telemedicine?

BHRT telemedicine is a way for patients to work with their doctors remotely, through live video chats or conversations over the phone. Many patients choose BHRT telemedicine because of the convenience it offers. They can schedule appointments to fit their schedule and avoid taking time off for an office visit. Because they can speak with their doctors from the comfort and privacy of their own homes, they can feel more comfortable discussing their treatments with medical professionals. Discussing BHRT in an online setting also makes it possible for those living in remote areas to talk to a specialist without needing to find one in their immediate vicinity.

Who needs them?

Bio-identical Hormones are helpful for women to ease the symptoms of menopause, perimenopause, and post-menopause.  Some of these symptoms may include mood changes, irritability, memory loss, weight gain, decreased sex drive, depression, bloating, insomnia, vaginal dryness, hot flashes, night sweats, and fatigue.

Some women who suffer from symptoms of PMS or ovarian cysts will also benefit from bio-identical hormone replacement therapy.

BHT is helpful for men as well.  Symptoms of low androgen hormones can cause weight gain, low libido, decreased energy and sense of well-being.

Some of the many benefits men and women can experience through in-person or online bio-identical hormone replacement therapy include:

  • More energy
  • Better moods
  • Weight loss
  • Fewer hot flashes or night sweats
  • More lean muscle
  • Better quality of life overall

Do I have to use hormones for menopausal symptoms?

Absolutely not, many therapeutic grade herbal or nutritional supplements can work well for menopausal symptoms.

Testing for Hormones?

Testing is often recommended at the beginning of treatment and then to monitor treatment.  This can be done with a saliva test or blood test.  For example, if an imbalance is found, Dr. Wells may give herbal supplementation to help the metabolism of hormones and or prescribe bio-identical hormones.

What’s involved?

An in-office visit, video or phone consultation is needed to get started. Whether delivered in-person or online, our bio-identical hormone replacement therapy process involves:
